Artist Statement
As children, we are acutely connected to the elements and moments that quietly shape our experiences. Growing older, our views on things, including who we are, evolve and transform, sometimes becoming a bit adulterated by the judgments and dictates of society.
Photography is a medium through which I can reconnect the surreal and beautiful with the seemingly everyday.
My artwork is created primarily with analog and Polaroid film. These mediums are creatively freeing to me at a time where we are leveraged daily by the immediacy and omnipresence of technology. The organic, sometimes mercurial nature of film allows me to infuse elements of intimacy, tangibility…and often some kind of accidental magic…into the work.
I strive to create images which invoke curiosity, action, wonder and dialogue. Photographs informing the environment in which they are viewed, can render the mundane questionable and explore relationships between impartiality and the personal experience.
Through my work, I wish to convey the energy of a place, the weight of a moment or perhaps give voice to some inanimate something many would simply overlook.
